2 nights of HK fun
It’s nights like these 2 that make me really appreciate the different life we get to experience while living in Hong Kong.
Thursday night as I was on my way home from work, I called to ask about plans for dinner, and suddenly a plan was hatched and I had changed destination… we were heading to Macau for dinner! After the ferry ride across and a quick taxi ride into the old town we were seated at a Portugese restaurant. We ordered the MOST ridiculously decadent dish: a cheese toasty with steak, ham, chorizo and cheese inside it and cheese on top soaking in gravy a.k.a. Francesinha. It was not as gross as it sounds, in fact it was strangely yum. We then wandered around the old town trying to find a portugese egg custard tart for dinner (no luck though). We ended up chatting to a random portugese guy, he informed us we would be hard pressed to find anywhere still selling them, but that he could deliver us a box next time he is Hong Kong, talk about friendly locals! We stumbled upon a still open bakery and with custard tart crumbs still on our face grabbed a taxi and headed for the ferry. Feeling the effects of a bottle of wine and the late hour we napped all the way home on the ferry, such a good, random night popping to another country for dinner.
Friday night we had a work team event, our boss booked a games-area with VR, car-racing games and bowling, and we rolled up with about 30 of us and BYO-drinks and snacks. The VR was the highlight, playing it was fun, but watching other people play it was even more fun. It had little shoe thingies and hand thingies as well so was total immersion, seeing people utterly lost in another world, running away from or fighting invisible enemies was gold. Once we were done with those games it was onto the bowling and trying to finish the rest of the drinks. The younger generation failed us and bailed, leaving the oldies to try and polish it off. We decided to jump in an uber and head to somewhere with a view instead, I rang home on the way, and the boys joined us too. There is a really cool public space at the top of one of the big buildings in Central, which is right beside restaurants and bars but picnics and BYO are allowed! The views of the skyline are epic, and the proximity to Shake-Shack after a night on the beers was also rather welcome…
