mini trips

mini trips

We were lucky enough to squeeze in a few mini trips the past couple of months:

Starting off with Thailand, good friends from Switzerland were there for a few weeks and we made sure to meet up with them for a long weekend. We flew to Phuket on a Friday night then jumped in a car to the resort they were staying in near Krabi arriving at some crazy hour of the morning. Our friends were holidaying with their 2 year old and 4 year old so we worked our Saturday plans around nap times, spending plenty of time in the gorgeous pool, and having food and drink down at the beach. Our big adventure was on Sunday when we headed out on a boat to a few nearby islands for a day tour, we saw some beautiful areas, swam in crystal clear water (with those annoying baby jellyfish darn it) and did a great hike up for some views. We attempted to picnic in one spot, only to be driven off by aggressive monkeys, then relocated to a new island (how lux does that sound!) for lunch and then wrapped the day up in a pretty cliff surrounded bay where we found a shady spot for the wee one to nap before we headed home. A flying visit as we then got up early on Monday and headed back to HK but totally worth it to spend some time with friends from home.

In mid-May I took advantage of staff travel to go to New Zealand for a weekend, I know it sounds nuts but I am lucky enough to fly so cheap that I can fly business class, so the flight was very cushy. I was there for my step mum’s 60th birthday. My dad had booked a house by a lake for the weekend and all my brothers and their partners were there too. Dad stocked up with lots of great snacks and meals so despite the rainy weather we had a lovely weekend. We played lots of games, snuck in in a walk in the bush to a waterfall and ate at a yummy cafes. I was literally only in NZ for 48 hours but there’s nothing quite like family and it was so great to see everyone even just for a short time.

Our final mini trip was also family-oriented but this time to Switzerland, we were going for grandma’s 99th birthday, what a special occasion. We had a whole week there (I was working some days but finishing in the early afternoon) so we got out to see friends and family each evening over drinks or dinner and snuck in a hike, as well as a gorgeous lunch for the 99th birthday, up on a hill in Zurich.
