Quarantine Day 14

Last day! Made it, with my sanity intact, actually pretty stoked with that - I really wasn’t sure how it was going to be or how I would handle it but it went alright overall. Oh and I must have tested negative for COVID-19 so that’s good!

In rough order the things I am most looking forward to when I get home are:

  • sleeping in my own bed

  • choosing my own food

  • getting outdoors

  • being able to take care-packages to the hospital

  • watching TV from the comfort of my couch

  • seeing some humans (at a safe public-health recommended distance - I really don’t want to end up back here again)

  • working from the office

  • laundry facilities

Had a super busy day “at” work, then packed up my stuff and am now playing the waiting game until I grab a taxi home at midnight.

I was able to chat with my little brother who is on Day 2 of his quarantine stint, having just moved back from Australia to NZ (all arrivals to New Zealand now go to government quarantine for 14 days). The NZ government are making use of all the empty hotels in Auckland to serve as quarantine facilities so he finds himself in a 4.5 star hotel right by the airport. He has a nice room, and he said it has been decent food so far (gourmet compared to here!), the internet completely sucks though (so he got an unlimited data mobile plan to see him through). They are allowed to go outside and wander in the grounds of the hotel (a car park and tiny bit of grass… not great but better than nothing). Despite the comparatively luxurious conditions I really feel sorry for him. He just completed 14 days home quarantine in his bedroom in Aussie, then had just few days off before arriving in NZ (during which he did a 12 hour train/bus journey in order to be able to catch his flight home) - yikes.

I’ll edit this if anything exciting happens during my moments of freedom but for now I am signing off from daily quarantine camp blogging - I am sure I will find these posts funny to look back at one day!

(Oh also - I’ll make sure to add a new post when my other half gets freedom, for those following along at home.)
