lamb rump, beer + freedom
Long story short - he finally tested negative twice and arrived home yesterday. Thank goodness.
A question I was asked alot when I was leaving quarantine camp was “what are you going to eat as your first meal when you get home?”.
When I sent dozens of texts out yesterday saying “He’s packing his bag and leaving the hospital to come home today” the most common reply I got was along the lines of “Woooohooo”, the second most common was “what is he going to eat first?” To be fair - after near-on 6 weeks of hospital rice-based meals (with the exception of a couple of days of gross pasta and some care packages) this is a pretty reasonable question. Turns out the answer is Lamp Rump and Beer (plus half my chips), we headed out for food pretty much straight after he got home and cheers-ed to his freedom.
We then wandered rather aimlessly through Happy Valley and Causeway Bay for a couple of hours, he just wanted to be outside, and move over distance and with a crowd - it didn’t really matter where (or how hot it was!). After walking a few hundred steps a day, the jump up to 12,000 steps unsurprisingly made for some pretty tired legs. This is the main noticeable thing after the long time in the hospital, the physical fitness and strength that has been lost, quite frustrating for a normally very fit fulla. But apart from that he is totally fine - said he feels like being home is just normal already. He is signed off work on medical leave until the end of the month which will give him time to rehab his physical condition a bit and pass his medical to be declared fit to fly again.
So this concludes (I hope) our personal covid-19 saga. Huge shout out to everyone who reached out with support and offers of help during this slightly crazy time, we really felt it and it helped us get through with sanity intact - thanks to you all!
